TH350 or T-56?????

im getting to the point where the 4l60e is not shifting dependably anymore on hard launches at the track. SO....i can sell my current setup (4l60e, Coan 3200 stall) and convert back to a M6(swapped to auto early this year) OR use the TH350 out of our 64 chevelle (came from a 73 chevy truck)

opinions? how much is involved in swapping to a TH350? how much can a TH350 take?

If you are willing to lose the OD, don't bother with a TH350 and go with a TH400, as it is a proven commodity.

I just bought a built TH400 recently and so far I love it. I had the original TH350 that came in my car before that, and while it wasn't exactly terrible, it was definitely beginning to show it's age even with my mild 350. You're already turning out some decent numbers with your current combo, and most likely you'll only get fast/more powerful in the future. I'm going to agree with Rich and suggest just going straight to a TH400. Just remember that it eats a few more ponies than a TH350 or a T56, and I believe it weighs a bit more as well. Still worth it, IMO. Good luck!

If you still want overdrive, you may wish to investigate a TH2004R. With the proper modifications you can have gearing similar to your TH350 (or even a TH400) and still have overdrive for the ride home.

If overdrive is not a concern, a TH400 would take more abuse than a TH350. At your current track times (low 12's), either should be able to do the job.

I went Th350 and I really like it. I stayed with the 3.42's to keep the rpms down to 3000rpms@70mph and everything works great. I wouldn't go with a TH400 unless you are planning to go low 10's or 9's. I made 10 passes Saturday my best being 12.001@113mph N/A and my TH350 never hiccuped. I plan on going 10's on the gas in the near future and I am not worried about the trans holding up. I miss my OD but I don't miss the inconsistancy and all the other problems associated with it.
