If you want to use the stock Driveshaft then get a 9" tailshaft.
Depending on what kind of Torq Arm you have or will use will determine the next step. B&M makes a 3rd gen swap kit that works on the 4th gens if you are using a stock style TA. I use a spohn TA and had some metal added to the front of my xmember and it all bolted right up.

You have options on the speedo, either none or Dakota Digital stuff and some others have found other options.

What other info do you need?

Don't I have to machine the bellhousing off?? And bolt on a different housing? I have a stock TA and will be that way till I can get more funds after I take care of the tranny. So where do I get a 9" tail shaft?? How much does the driveshaft have to be shortened? And the stock crossmember will bolt up to the tranny? Do I need a new flywheel? Any other things that anyone else can think of would be helpful.

Thanks,
Benji

Everything bolts right up easily.
The bolt pattern is the same for the A4 and the A3.
I called up the shop that was going to build my TH350 and told him I wanted a long tailshaft and he had them there and I went and picked it up. They are not hard to find. But the short ones are easier. with the long shaft the DS fits just fine. If you get the short one then you will need a longer DS, dont know by how much you will have to measure and have one made.

I would be the B&M changeover kit from Jegs/Summit. It has everything needed for the stock Xmember to work.

I am using the stock flexplate.

Speedo functions.

Please do a search on this subject.....

So the tranny will bolt to my motor? I have a buddy that machined his bellhousing off to fit on hit motor. That will make things easier.

Thanks,
Benji

what is his set up? That makes no sense for a iron Chevy 350 based motor with a Chevy TH350 .

My bad. I misunderstood. He did it so he could put a bulletproof bellhousing on there. I came up with a list of stuff I need, is this about it?
tranny w/9" tail shaft
converter
shifter
console
change-over kit

Also, I need to know about a dip stick and what you did for you tranny lines. And what did you do for your TA? Do you have pics possibly? I appreciate all your help.

I called Madman in TX and got his dipstick, expensive but worth it!! Tranny lines, you can use stock but I had some flex tubing made for mine. Dont forget the tranny cooler if you do not already have one.

I have the spohn TA, it mounts off the trans. the change over kit has the adaptor for the stock TA and the needed part for the crossmember.

how soon are you wanting to do all of this? I am soon going to pull my TH350 combo and go back to A4. I will have the shifter, possibly the console (M6), Convertor (Vig 3500). My trans is spoken for.

I would like to do it soon. Let me know how much you want for all that. What kind of shifter?

Thanks,
Benji

Well let me know. Also, do you have the stock auto transmission? If not, I can help you out. I am going to pull it out and have it rebuilt and sell it. It has a trans-go shift kit, kevlar bands, etc. Also, if wanted, I have a 3600 Vig (nitrous converter) to go with. Let me know.

Thanks,
Benji

I would think long and hard about a tranny without an OD. And if you decide to go this route, get a TH400 and at least get something really strong to make up for the lack of OD.

I repeat this as well. From someone that tries to drive his daily with out OD, although my daily commute is only 16 miles one way that 1:1 gets old, and even older if I want to go somewhere.

The TH400/350 debate will continue. For me the only good thing about the 400 is that it can be built to have a lock up TC which will help with the RPMs in 3rd. But I have seen all kinds of cars go fast with either one. I chose the 350 b/c it was lighter.....and I am not pushing a bunch of power with just the HOT cam and 100 shot....others on here may actually see the limit of the 350....
BUT there are some fast cars with 350s.....

Yeah, you're right. A TH350 can be built strong. It's a matter of philosphy I guess. The Th400 is heavier and the internal parts have more inertia, so it does suck up some additional power. However, when I did an M6 to auto swap the whole point was to make it "bulletproof". If I have to give up OD and the pleasures of a stick shift car I wanted to be ensure a strong setup. Also though, my setup is bigger hp than most and my car is heavy. The combination is tough on driveline parts. If the original poster gave some details about his setup, intended use, etc. it might be possible to be more objective about advising him.

But in general, if you are making big hp in a heavy car, the TH400 is a better choice, if you have a less powerful setup in a lighter car, the TH350 has some advantages. But think carefully about either if your car sees much street time, especially if you are running a high rear end gear. Mine is tolerable with the 3.42's and a 26" tire. 3.73's would be borderline, and 4.11's would be completely useless on the street unless you drive around on a 30" tire or something like that.

Very good points and agree on the power and weight.

I would just really consider the actual use of the car. As much as I like to think I drive a race car to work everyday, this has become not as much fun. I would rather drive a car that was fun and went to the track some....

To answer some of the above questions, I have stock trans lined up and have purchased a TC that will be used.
