TCI 6x 4L80E into a 97 Z (4L60E swap)

Anyone do this or similar? I am not sure the best route to go with the torque arm (the 4L80E does not have the Tranny tail mount). I am thinking to go with a UMI Tunnel mount (Thoughts?) and and a BMR crossmember.
Car is a convertible and motor is pushing 500HP. Let me know your experiences and thoughts?

Why not just have the 4L60E rebuilt to handle the power? The 4L80E is a bit heavier isn't it?

A 4L80 tranny is physically larger than the 4L60 tranny. So much so that it won't fit under the car without a bit of clearance surgery (that means beating the heck out of the tranny tunnel with a BFH).

The best route would be an upgraded 4L60E or a TH400 with an overdrive....

Do a "search" on both the Advanced Tech and the Drivetrain forums. This has been discussed before, people have done it, and someone indicated they had photos, if I remember correctly.

I'll move this to the "Drivetrain" forum, since that's where it belongs.

At 500 flywheel horsepower a 4l60e will hang, but it wont be as reliable as a 4L80e. Any yes it's slightly heavier, most things that are stronger are heavier, but it's not as heavy as lots of the nay sayers want you to think.

Yes the 4L80e is larger but I'm not sure how many you've put in a 4th Gen if your saying you need to beat the heck out of the tranny tunnel. Not necessary.

If your making big power the 4L60e wont cut it, but at 500hp it will be alright if the right person puts it together. The TH400 with overdrive will work, but I'd rather save the extra money and have everything in one package. No offense Injuneer

an 80 will most likely slow a 500 hp car...the only worth wile advantage to one is a trans brake will last in an 80...not in a 60...a 60 will hang at about 700 rwhp for a long time...9 second car is easy with one...i have one...and another one of my cars with a 60 is mid 10's...no problems...

really an 80 id only consiser in a turbo car...

Thanks

Guys,
Thanks for the thoughts, I had the same arguments in my head vs the 60E.
However, next step is a 100+ Nitrous shot and will push me way over 500HP. ALSO - I really wanted the 6 speed with the paddle shifter - which I have. I do not think I will need to beat the tunnel though....I will let you know next week!

I'm interested in seeing what you do with that new tranny. I wish it had a higher OD though just for interstate cruising. So post some pics if you can and let us know how it turns out.

Will do

BMR sent the wrong crossmember or it would have been in last week. The links that others posted are helpful and we think we can digest the issues.
This is the newest package from TCI so I am hoping some of the bugs others ran into have been addressed (yeah right). The torque arm relo bracket with DS loop and arm look really cool and freed up alot of space!
