Question t56 rebuild help w/ some options. allready found the problems

Well I pulled the trans today and opened her up... This is what I found!!! 1st/2nd 3rd/4th 5th/6th & reverse Synchro sleeves are either showing a lot of wear or broken teeth, 2nd gear needs to be replaced!!!

I would like to get the steal 3rd/4th fork and whatever other parts I need... All the bearings look good... Would there be any pros going with all four synchro Assy. or should I just buy the sleeves and a rebuild kit???

Thanks in advance,
Todd

You might want to check this out... http://www.tennesseeauto.com/proshiftkit.html

I can't vouch for these folks but it certainly sounds appealing. BTW you might as well replace the bearings too if you can while you've got it apart. It would certainly suck if one went a thousand miles down the road.

Synchro gears are pretty pricey, and if the teeth look O.K. I don't see why you would replace them. Synchro rebuild kits run about 200 bucks, with new blockers and rings, add another 50 for a steel 3-4 shift fork and you should be golden. As for the bearings, if they look OK I wouldn't change them as they are PITA, you'll need a press and lots of fittings. FWIW the Chevrolet service manual says not to replace them unless they show signs of wear.
