T56 ppl please look. Good deal or not?

Ok a guy I work with has a t56 out of a 95 fbody. Its the tremec t56 not the borgwarner. Anyway it is missing the rear section of the transmission, the tailshaft housing I guess. and its missing the bell housing.

He has the tail section but it is broken from being droped. He has all the gears and parts with him in a box that came out of the tail section.

He was asking 400 bucks for it and I offered 200. I think he is going to take it.

Is this a good deal? Or should I run.

So basically ill be getting a t56 that needs to be torn down, a tail section found and a bell housing found. All for $200. Basically its a core.

Thanks for any suggestions, Josh.

The Tremec and Borgwarner units are identical. No reason to make a distinction between them.

For $200? Sure. I had to replace third gear in my T56 this past winter, and the gear alone was $130.

Call the people at SixSpeedsInc.com and ask them what it would cost to fix it. They did a full teardown and rebuild of mine for $1200, including replacing 3rd gear and a bunch of other upgraded parts. The freight to ship it to them (they're in the Houston area) was $200 round trip.

Hard to understand how it could be a Tremec..... Borg-Warner didn't sell the T56 manufacturing to Dana/TREMEC until 1997. I have an original trans out of a 1997 SS, and it was still a Borg-Warner.

If it IS a Tremec and not a Borg Warner, you need to verify that the front faceplate and input shaft are for the LT1, not the LS1. When I received my T56 from SixSpeedsInc, whether by accident or not, the case is from a Tremec T56, but it is built for my 96 Z. So all you have to verify is compatibility.
