T56 messing up.... NEED HELP BAD!!!!

I switched to the M6 about a year and 3 months and ~13,000 miles ago. Trans has worked great and never gave me any problems. It had 70k miles on it when i bought it, so it's got ~83k now. Today while coming back to the apartment from campus, it started to get real hard to shift with some vibration occuring also. But every second up to that point the trans and clutch has worked flawlessly. No problems driving to campus, only an hour earlier.

This is kinda long, so please bear with me....

At first i thought the fluid in the clutch reservior was low so i pulled over in a nearby parking lot to check it. It looked fine. I go to put it in reverse and it won't go... so i keep the pedal depressed and row through the gears without driving it. Try to get back in first and i got a nasty grinding and screaming sound from underneath me. Go to let out on the clutch and it starts bucking and jumping like something was binding the gears. Try reverse again and got about the same result as last time, but it caught, binded, and killed the engine. I restart it and play with the gears some more and got it to go into first. Same result. So i restart it again and try second... works good and got me going. Try shifting into third and get some more nasty sounds, but it was still moving and had a bad vibration. 4th gear works good.... shift into 5th and got the same crap 1st and 3rd are giving me. Shift into 6th and works fine. While going down the road and playing with the gears, i find that 2, 4, and 6th gears work good... while all the others are not working good at all. I can't go from a stop in first or it will do that crazy stuff. So i have to start off in 2nd.

Got here to the apartment and played with it some more. Still acting like earlier. But i can't use reverse at all or it wants to make gears 1, 3, and 5 act worse. After shifting it into gears 2, 4, and 6th while in neutral, gears 1, 3, and 5, will work a little better so i can use them a little bit. So i just resolved part of the issue by only using 2, 4, and 6th while driving.

Cliff notes:
1) problems started after reverse started acting up, causing 1, 3, and 5th to act bad.
2) gears 2, 4, and 6th work good in any case.
3) can't try to use reverse at all or it'll make 1, 3, and 5th act worse until i run the shifter through 2, 4, and 6th while in neutral... after doing so they will move the car but with loud grinding and squealing noises. But the even numbered gears still work good.

Anybody have a clue what happened? Does it sound like it'll need a complete rebuild? I'm only making 270-280rwhp at best and i don't race it.. never been to the track and had only 1 or 2 street races since i put it in. I DO NOT powershift it at all and never have. Any help will be appreciated guys, i really need my car or i can't get around.

Thanks,
JB

BTW, reverse has always been a little difficult to engage, but not very bad. Just takes a little more pressure to get it in.

Re: T56 messing up.... NEED HELP BAD!!!!

Anyone have a clue what might be wrong with it? i've never seen a post describing a situtation like mine, so i'm really concerned about it.

I drove it around again today and it seems like the reverse it the main problem. I didn't try to engage reverse at all today and gears 1,3 and 5 are working a little better. I still get a grinding/squealing in those gears but at least they'll engage now. 2,4 and 6 still work good. Funny thing is, even when i have the clutch pedal all the way down while it's in gear it still wants to grind the gears... even though i'm not moving. I don't see how the clutch could be what's causing it because the gears still grind even when it's still moving. This is the wierdest thing i've ever heard of with the T56. It's like the odd numbered gears and reverse won't fully mesh together or they engage really harsh.

If anyone here has ever torn down or rebuilt a M6 i'd like to hear your input, as i've never seen the inside of one of these. I have been looking through that T56 manual that fred posted last year, but can't see the link between all the gears that could lead to a problem like this. Maybe there is just so much wrong with it that THE problem can't be identified.

Sounds like your clutch isn't fully decompressing... I'd check the hydraulics... Reverse shouldn't affect your other gears becuase it's in a leauge of it's own... there are synchros for 1-2 3-4 5-6 Reverse gear only has a lockout...

From your description your talking about clutch chatter..., and grinding going into gears... which means your clutch is not decompressing in all the way when you push the pedal in. THat causes grinding going into gears... when you try and shift....

What kind of clutch is it and how many miles are on it?
