T5 into LT1
Re: T5 into LT1
The reason you don't see T5s behind LT1s or L98s is because they weren't designed to take the torque these engines make. The mustang boys are having a hard enough time with them in the 5.0s and 4.6s. It could be made to work, i'm sure, but there will probably be issues with the crossmember and driveshaft due to length differences (again, i'm not sure about this). IMO, you're better on waiting it out and getting a M6 out of a 4th gen f-body... makes the swap a LOT easier since it's a direct bolt-in with only a couple of holes to cut (master cylinder and shifter). They are more expensive, but the T56 is a damn strong trans.
(as you see in my sig, mine blew up with only about 280rwhp and no track time, lost gears 1, 3, 5, and reverse. 2, 4, and 6 still worked fine. But i bought mine from a wrecked car that was rear-impacted and i think the DS could have been jammed into the trans. It lasted about 23k miles in my car, about 95k total miles on the trans, but always had some rattleing noises which leaves me to believe a bearing was damaged. But don't be discouraged, my situation is few and far between and it's not the tranny's fault.)
