T-56 Hard to Put in Gear
T-56 Hard to Put in Gear
Hey guys, my t-56 lately has been kind of hard to put into gear. This problem is intermediate, and its not all gears, usually 1 and 6th. The fluid has been flushed regularly and I have been using Royal purple Synchromax. Any suggestions?
Re: T-56 Hard to Put in Gear
That's a new combination to me. It's usually 1st and reverse that can be a pain. At least mine was after the "wonderful" Centerforce DF install. I see you list a custom clutch. Can you be more specific about what you have?
PS. I have a personal theory on why the Centerforce causes hard shifts. I'll be happy to share if anyone asks.

Re: T-56 Hard to Put in Gear
i made a mistake, yes its 1st and reverse. Its a stock pressure plate, with a custom disc. I have had a spec and a centerforce in the past, and this setup hooks up harder, is less chatterful on the street, and was a third of the price...
Re: T-56 Hard to Put in Gear
I don't know what to suggest. I've had this problem too. But I know mine is caused by the centerforce pressure plate. Mine gets hard to get into those two gears after I've shifted at high rpm a couple of times. Strangely enough, it corrects itself if it sits for a day or two before I drive it again. I wish I knew something to suggest. Maybe someone else with more t-56 knowledge can step in.

The twin disk centerforce?? Mebie the rough engaugement is due to heat expansion?? -Disk wise. More rotating weight takes longer to slow down?
Re: T-56 Hard to Put in Gear
What I've heard about the Centerforce is that the added clamping pressure afforded by the flyweights on the springs causes extra load on the hydraulics when you go to shift at high RPM, and eventually causes premature master or slave cylinder cylinder failure.
Re: T-56 Hard to Put in Gear
You asked...so here goes.(please keep in mind it is only MY theory)
As someone else said. I absolutely believe it has to do with the centrifugal weights. I think at high rpm's this causes the slave/master cylinder to incorrectly adjust itself. It's supposed to self-adjust to compensate for clutch wear. But, it also seems to be forced out of correct adjustment after a hard run. It will seemingly "slip" back to right after a day or two of rest, and shift very easily until the next time I run it hard again.
