T-56 is BAD?

I just called about a 98 Z28, it was sold, but appearently the guy has like 4 other F-bodys on his lot. claims to sell around 200 a year, and was telling me the T-56 is junk. said he hasn't found a 4th gen with a good 6 speed in 6 months. he has a 2000 TA on his lot now with the 6, but they are weak and are starting to go now on the 98 and 99 models.....

do I want a.....oh my....auto?

my 69 has one(TH350), but on a modern car with any sort of handling capabilities, I want a stick

Re: T-56 is BAD?

I bought my Z-28 and the T-56 trans in the car didn't have a second or third gear in it. This I believe was due to the fact of how it was drivin. The guy that had it before my ran it at the track some and did alot of road racing. I must say though the car had 94,000 miles on it. Also the motor was shot to so I assume it took alot of abuse and neglect to blow the motor and tear the trans too.

Re: T-56 is BAD?

The T-56 trannys are, apparently, able to hold over 500 horsepower without modifications (except the clutch). As long as the synchros are not mashed the tranny is bulletproof, as it is almost identical to that used in the Viper. With proper driving techniques, raced or not, it should hold it's own. I beat my car to hell and it's tranny is rock solid and motor is going like hell... Then again, a used one might be abused in the wrong way.

Re: T-56 is BAD?

The guy is a retard. As long as the person isnt missing shifts, a stock t56 will handle way more than a 4L60e will. I had mine out this winter, and while there was nothing wrong with it I had D&D performance Viperize it. Hardened input and 30 spline hardened output shaft ala Viper, carbon fiber synchros and blocker rings, steel shift forks, some billet Liberty goodies, billet struts and keys, polish the hubs, the works. It was a little notchy for the first few miles, but it feels damn good now. I can beat the **** out of it and know it will take it.

Article about the t56:

The T56 6 Speed is the most rugged, durable and best shifting manual transmission on the market today. It is or has been original equipment on the Viper, Camaro, Firebird, Corvette, Cobra R, Cobra , Cadillac CTS-V and Aston Martin. That's right, when you plunk down $250,000 for an Aston Martin Vanquish you get a T56 6 Speed!
