need some quick solid info. rear from 93 to 97..
hey guys, I have been looking around for a quick cheap fix for my rear end problem, and I think I have found it. I have done some reading on here and cant find much on the subject of swapping an older rear into a newer car.. most are swapping new into old.. i am looking at a 93 rear with nothing(maybe abs) to replace my 97 rear with abs and tc(traction control).. and need the good ol' yay/nay asap..
I have an M6.
what i did find out:
97's have 4 channel, whereas a 93 has 3 channel.. physical locations of the sensors are different... shouldnt mix non tc cars with tc cars.. etc..
now I did read in one thread that you can put a non tc/4ch rear into a tc/4ch car provided you swap the axles from the newer rear to the older rear to keep the abs working.. is there any truth to this? I am really interested in finding out if you put a 93 rear into a 97 with abs/tc as long as you have a donor 97 rear with the needed stuff..
the 93 rear is 150 bucks and wanna do this if there is a chance of it working with abs. otherwise, i'll keep searching(got a few more weeks before convertible weather around here...)
I am just trying to retain ABS for insurance purposes, and could care less about traction control..
a little background:
my rear blew up about a year back, was in a crunch and had to put a 2.73 rear end in(to keep abs and tc). planned on replacing the gear with 3.73, but it went into storage for the winter... now its summer and i want to play.
I am trying to find either a 3.42 or 3.73 rear end to put in my car as a "tide-me-over" until this fall then a 12 bolt goes in.. basically I dont wanna blow money on getting the gears professionally installed when its going to be replaced anyways.
