Angry Synchros or Clutch???

Ok after much searching and still have not found a definite answer here goes the thread.

I have been having some trouble with my T56 for along period of time. When I shift the car into second it grinds really obnoxiously before sliding into gear. Its the same sound that the trans would make if you were trying to put the car in gear without the clutch pushed in. The trans also does this when I shift from neutral to first but these are the only two gears that it does this in. I have tried double clutching second and it still grinds. My question is, are the synchros toast which is my assumption or does the clutch need to be adjusted or something? I figured I would ask on here what to do before I rebuild the trans. All help or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!!

It may be that the pilot bearing/bushing is shot and grabing the input shaft.

this recently happened to me... while i thought it was the synchros i found out after the tranny was pulled that one of the stock keys/struts for second gear broke off and wasnt allowing me into 2nd... it would grind and kick me out of gear... so that may be something you wanna look into, you never know for sure untill it is pulled
