Swap 4l60 with 4l60E

Is it possible to swap my 93 camaro Z28 4l60 transmisssion with one from a 95 Trans Am 4l60E. And If possible what extra steps need to be done. Thanks for your time.

It's possible but the 4l60E requires a computer to operate. You would have to figure out a way to use a 94 or later PCM or get a stand alone computer to operate the transmission. TCI makes one but it's about $875. There may be other ones that aren't as expensive.

Re: Swap 4l60 with 4l60E

what about just getting a computer out of a 94-95 z28 (obd1) and just getting it reflashed to work properly for my car? would all the same connectors from a 93 hook right up to a 94-95 computer, and then you would just run a few wires from the computer to the transmission? that seems like the easiest way of going about it assuming that it can be done, being that you can just pick up a ECU from a 94-95 for under $200..

I'm sure that is possible but I don't know how to do it. There are more differences to the 93 LT1 and the later ones than just the transmission. It seems like a lot of work and expense for not much if any gain to me.

Why do you want to swap to a 4l60E? Unless you're getting it for free I'd stick with your 4L60...except for TCC lockup, there's no electonics to go wrong or mess with on the 4L60.

He would prolly also have to get a wiring harness from a 4l60e car because of the extra connections on the tranny.

Thanks for the resopnses, I was thinking of using the 4l60E because it was mine for free if I could use it, but it sounds like Im better off just getting the 4l60 rebuilt and saving myself a headache.

I think you'd have to change the PCM, the engine/transmission harness, and the transmission to get the 4L60e working correctly.

Re: Swap 4l60 with 4l60E

a benefit of moving to a 4l60E is that: for one you will have a 94 or newer ECU which by itself is nice because it simply be reflashed for tuning whenever you want, unlike the 93 ECU that requires a chip to be burned, meaning finding someone that burns chips and/or buying expensive chip burning equiptment, such as uberdata. For two it is much easier to program and reprogram things for trans., such as shift points, and line pressure changing the shift firmness. Problem i'm running into now with my 4l60E is that I want to change my shift points from 5000-5100 to 6200 because of a cam swap, and I am not to sure of how to go about changing shift points to that exact RPM.
