Sun shell failed - total failure imminent?

Looks like the sun shell in my '98 Z-28 failed this evening. Reverse, second, and fourth are gone.

The car is still driveable. I made it home 40 or so miles. It'll rev to about 3K in first, then I can give the gas a quick, short punch and it'll shift to third. It tried to shift into fourth once - made a pretty horrible buzzing noise. So I kept the shifter in "D" instead of "OD" to keep it from going into fourth. Careful parking at the grocery store, etc. allowed me to get by without reverse.

This thing couldn't have happened at a worse time. I've got a house across town that I've got to get ready for sale, and I'm halfway through a $1900 root canal.

So.......can this thing be driven for a little while as-is? Is the sun shell something that disintegrates and takes out a bunch of other stuff with it, or does it just break and take out R-2-4?

Of course I'm going to get it fixed ASAP..........I'm just wondering if I can limp this thing along for a week or two to let my checking account recover from the dent my dentist just put in it..............

sorry to hear your problems, and I feel like an a$$ to compound them but, you will be lucky to last a week let alone 2. If you drive it very carefully and not rev it too high then you might make it 2 weeks, but I doubt it. But by that point you are probably hurting yourself more because of the other damage it is doing to the other parts in the tranny, the more parts you break the more the price goes up.
