Strange 12 bolts back ordered???

Is it true strange is back ordered a few months on center sections for the 12 bolts? If this is true im considering a 9" or possibly a moser 12 bolt. Anyone know about this or know how much more $ im looking at for a comparable 9" streetable with a locker or very good posi and the basic extras we need??

Anyone have any bad experiences or heard of any bad experiences iwth the moser 12 bolts. I thought i was hearing some bad news about em??

You might be thinking of the KTRE 12 bolts that had problems.

Re: Strange 12 bolts back ordered???

I had heard that Strange had the posis with the 4 series carriers on back order for a while, but that they are back to speed now...They usually are on a 4-6 order time anyway, but well worth it imho...Mine should be here in a week...Not real wild about the Moser TA mount which uses 4 bolts rather than 2 long bolts and nuts like the factory style/Strange. Plus you have to assemble the Moser by pressing on the axle bearings and (I believe, installing the caliper backing plates...) With Strange you get a dyno tested fully assembled rear end for the same $$$$...

Re: Strange 12 bolts back ordered???

I have seen a number of 12-bolt units from both Moser and Strange and they both seem to make a nice piece. No major problem with either of them. The Moser does require more assembly though. A 9" is way overkill for all but the wildest 4th gens and is not warranted in light of the weight and relatively inefficient power transmission for any but the few, and they know who they are!

Strange is about a month or so wait, a lot of it has to do with Eaton custom building their Posi units, they seem to get behind on making the 33 spline posi units, and that effects what Strange can build.

I have their 12-bolt, and it is a great piece.

Re: Strange 12 bolts back ordered???

My moser utilizes the factory 2 bolts for the T/A. Are other moser's different? Also, I don't know about Strange, but i'm sure there the same, but eaton doesn't put out a 33 spline posi. Just a 31. So moser gets them and ships them off to US Gear and there they rebuild the eaton so it will accept a 33 spline axle. This is the info I got from moser when I blew my 33 spline eaton on it's first pass down the track. Also got my moser in 2 weeks.

Yeah, I had heard that while the 33 spline axles are strong that the machining process for making the posi unit accept the 33 splined axles makes the unit weaker. When I ordered my Strange I requested 30 splined axles...we'll see what I get....

I'd wait for the strange rear. It is nicer in my opinion. You don't have to put the thing together either when its received. It used to be the Moser prices were much better but since they have gone up. It's up to you though.

Good luck,

They broach the 30 spline spider gears to 33 spline and if this cuts beyond the heat treating, it makes the gear weaker. I went with DTS and they have a 35 spline upgrade (300$) where they install new spider gears for the Eaton that are made for 35 spline axles, not broached. They had a Strange 12-bolt sitting on the shop floor and it's bearing caps looked exactly like the stock 10-bolt caps. DTS machines their own beefier caps. They also weld on the factory style brake line tabs -- from what I've read, the other 12-bolt rears you need to zip-tie the brake lines to the axle tubes. Overall I felt their quality was better (compared to the Strange) and paid a bit more for it, plus tax

I ordered it last week (Fri.) and it should be ready to be picked up before the end of next week.

Re: Strange 12 bolts back ordered???

Ive heard of quite a few strange 12 bolts holding up to 600-800 and i guess theres one or two running around with a 1000hp (flywheel or wheel??) in front of em and they are taking it all day. Im not worried about their strength at all. Only part that kills me is the waiting time. Strange is "expecting" the super strength posi's in by july 18-19. If i ordered this week it would be complete by around the end of july. IF they come in as scheduled, from what i hear and how the guy on the phone sounded its a 50/50 shot on em coming in or the date getting pushed back another 2 weeks or more. I still havnt decided to gamble on em coming in or not yet. Ill decide by monday i guess. Strange is also about a 15 minute drive from me so if i had any trouble i could go to their front door with it. Also no shipping charges.
