4.10 IS WHAT IS MADE FOR OUR REAR ENDS AND IF YOU HAVE A 3.08 GEAR OR HIGHER STOCK YOU NEED A 3 SERIES GEAR AND IF YOU HAVE UNDER 3.08 OR WHAT IS MOST COMOMON IN OUR CARS 2.73 YOU WILL NEED A 2 SERIES THICK CUT 4.10 GEAR. THESE ARE THE FACTS.

Re: straight forward question need straight forward answer

If you order a new set of "4.11's" or "4.10's" they are actually the same anyway. Nominally, the ring and pinon for a 4th gen rear is called a "4.11" though. Just be sure you order it for the correct rear end. Call Randy's Ring and Pinion and tell them what car it is for and you will get the right set.

The ratio is determined by the # of ring gear teeth/# of pinion teeth. Gear ratio tooth counts aren't always straight forward. A 4.10 or 4.11 can actually have a tooth count that's 4.09, 4.10, or 4.11. Gear manufacturers use different ratios for many reasons. Some include strength, gear life, noise, geometric constraints, or simply because of available tooling.

Sorry, the correct answer is not "simple". Not rocket science though.

4.11 for a 7.625" 10 bolt will be stronger. they use 9/37 teeth which allows them to make the teeth thicker than on the 4.10s which are 10/41. the 4.11s are a little more prone to make noise as well though if not set up perfectly, so that decision is up to you
