Stop Leak Additives

Stop Leak Additives
Looks like my 4L60E is leaking around the pan. 101k on the clock. The fluid was changed onced at about 60k. If I replace the fluid and gasket it might croak. I do not want to rebuid it at this point. So how are the stop leak additives for these transmissions.

Stop Leaks = Junk. I wouldn't trust anything that says it will stop leaks but not gunk up your valvebody. Just check the fluid before you do it, as long as it's not burnt you should be ok. If not, it's just a matter of time anyway and I would start saving for a rebuild and forget about the leak.

any stop leak additive for any system works one of two ways
it will swell/lubricate seals to help them seal better, and it will clog up any leaks to stop them from leaking
the problem is they also clog up other stuff that we dont want clogged
you are probably better off changing the fluid

What "stop leak" usuallyt do is swell up rubber. All your internal lip seals are also rubber. "Stop leak" additives usually turn those seals into mush.
My advice is, if it's leaking, have it fixed right.
