stock trans question

have a 02 z/28 auto and like to know what the trans can take.

how much power can i put to the wheels and be ok with the stock trans.
I would like to see numbers around 400 to 450.
If I do need to upgrade what is the best route and parts for the job

will be running a yank 3200 stall with a trans cooler and 3.73 gear

400-450 to the wheels is possible on the stock tranny, but I wouldn't count on it to be reliable and forever lasting. I would definitely plan ahead in the event of a rebuild in the future.

You'll need to upgrade many parts in the 4L60E before it'll handle those numbers.

As long as the transmission is still in good shape, and you are going to add the Yank 3,200rpm stall & 3.73's I would recommend that you install the modified TransGo Perfomance Shift kit. This will upgrade the plastic accumulator pistons to aluminum, upgrade the main boost valve for more main line pressure when needed, smoother part throttle shifts, better stabilized line pressure, firmer WOT shifts, slightly quicker 3-2 downshift. This modified TransGo Performance Shift kit has been installed by hundreds of people with much success. This should keep the transmission living for awhile, other than this you will need to go into the transmission to make further upgrades. If you have any questions about the installation of this kit, or building it in the future to handle more horsepower, give me a call. Dana 909 7951876

what other mods does your car have besides the ones listed. I have LT headers, high flow cats, 3400 stall, cooler, just added a trasgo shift kit 3:42 gears and typical things like a FIPK, home ported tb and use a Predator handheld tuner. Have made 300+ passes and ran a full 2 seasons in my local CCC ET drags and never broke a thing. But with those mods I am only putting out 350 rwhp. With the 3:42's and the 3400 stall it seems to be a good choice with nittos and hooks well and gives me 1.5's 60 foot times and a mid 12 second 1/4 mile.

If it were me I would build up the tranny... With the 3.73's and 3200 stall it will come out of the hole pretty hard. With my setup it comes out of the hole good and I have nowhere near the power as you. A buddy at the track runs a simular setup as you and was running 12.1's and now he is low 11's with a 100 shot.

That link is to a vacuum modulated 4L60E. he'd be better off running the stock transmission than install that one.

FWIW - I bought my Transgo kit and cooler from Dana at Pro Built Automatics and he is an excellent vendor. Quick shipping, great customer service, and anytime I had a question I just picked up the phone and gave him a call. He'll walk you through whatever questions/concerns that you may have. Top notch guy in my book, and I will definitely do more business with him.
