Stock LS1 Rear-End on LT1???

Would a stock LS1 rear end with 3.42's, and 3 series carrier fit my car
(95 Z28), which came from the factory with 2.73's, (2 series carrier)???
Is there anything that i need to modify, or change?

Yep, need to change the brakes/etc on the outter edges unless you want to do an LS1 conversion..not sure whats involved in that. I just had the mounting bracket, calipers, etc changed over to my new rear.

Running a 98 WS6 Rear.

My buddy, has an '02 rear end on his 93 Formula. It has the LS1 breaks and all still. I dont think anything was changed, but not sure cause it was like that when he bought the car.

I'm not sure if the ABS system will work. One uses a 3 channel system, one uses a 4 channel system. Don't ask me which ones uses which, it's too early.

only T/C cars used 4 channel, non-T/C cars were all three channel

if the LS1 rear end is a 3 channel, it should just bolt on with no problems??!
and, if it's a 4 channel, so i can say goodbye to my ABS?

Are the LS1 rear ends any stronger than the LT1's?

Re: Stock LS1 Rear-End on LT1???

If your car has traction control, and so does the ls1, you are fine. If neither has traction control, you are fine. If they are mix matched, then your ABS wont work.

As said, you need to swap over the brakes too. You can run lt1 brakes, but you need to do lots of shimming to get them to work correctly. I had mine setup like that for awhile, but finally gave up (b/c it kept eating pads) and went to ls1 style brakes.

You also will need the ls1 parking brake cables

You don't have to swap brakes if you swap axles. Use your old LT1 axles and everything will bolt right up.

Re: Stock LS1 Rear-End on LT1???

so, do i need to swap the brakes or not?
you are saying that i can use my stock axles, and i should have no problem, and everything will bolt perfect?

all i need to do is to figure out if it came from a car with TC, and that's it?

Re: Stock LS1 Rear-End on LT1???

Yes. The ABS connections are the same, as long as it is 3-channel.(connector on pumpkin) The brake issue is because the axles are different lengths on LT1 vs. LS1 cars. Use LT1 axles and all your stock stuff will bolt right up.

Re: Stock LS1 Rear-End on LT1???

Yes the axles are differnt lengths as said above. Pulling axles means pulling C clips, yucky job, although a much cheaper one.
