here is a question to go along w/ the subject... is there a stall that is only activated when I manually pull the car into first gear???? so that when I am in OD it drives normal??? Probably a stupid question but I was just wondering..

At cruise the TC should lock up so it does't matter.

TCI is not a good converter I would say the vibration is either exessive hub runnout or out of balance(maybe both), either way I would prepare for it to damage the tranny. I briefly ran a Level 10 TC blew the tranny which I believe was unrelated, but when I gave the TC to someone else to have it cleaned from the tranny debris they found the hub runnout to be .10"(not a typo) and it to be badly out of balance drivability sucked as well, it had TCI internals and an Art Carr serial. It was such a raging piece of crap I cut my loses and went to a higher yet stall Edge and things were much smoother and it drives better even with my 4500lbs beast couldn't be happier. After that I will never do buisiness with Level 10, TCI or Art Carr since that one piece was so bad and linked to all 3.

Wether you think TCI is a good company or not a high stall TC should not cause vibration address the problem soon.

i got a yank SY3500 and it takes alittle getting used to. virtually no idle and before i think i only went to about 1800 rpms in 1st to slowly exelerate through an intersection now i have to go to about 2800-3000 not good if there is a cop next to you. In the highway the onlything you will notice with a high stall is a small jolt when the TCC locks up. but the 3500 RPM launch makes it all worth it!

my 12" 2500 is almost like the stocker unless i push hard on the pedal. they both start moving the car as soon as i push on the pedal. the difference is in flooring it. the 2500 jumps to 2500 / 3000 and rips the rear end loose. the stock just ramped up normally. it should cause no extra vibration. the vibration means something is out of balance or not right.

another related question. I had a 2800 stall in my firebird (350 turbo) although I have 3.73 gears, it was still crusing through town under stall speed. How does this effect the transmission? My tranny is shot now, and I just wondered if this had anything to do with it?

IMHO since you were below stall the fluid is spinning inside the TC and heating up. if you didn't have a cooler to keep the fluid temps down you may have had issues with overheating. other than a temperature related issue i dont think you should have had any problem.

I do have a tranny cooler. Seems like this problem would be even worse with a 700 because of the low cruise speeds in OD.
