split bellhouse 4l60e
you are speaking of a bolt on bell unit and yes it can be done and its relativly easy swap there are some minor issue with the exhaust hangers ,
You would need a unit unit for and LT1 type engine and with the proper electronics for your model year , And you would need the camaro type tail looking at the pic you have there but its not a hard swap and I beleave they are a little stonger to case wise

The LS1 (2 piece case) transmission uses a different (taller) converter, a different input shaft, and pump stator, if it's originally from an F-body.
Fortunately, you can use your input drum/shaft, and pump out of your '97 unit. You'll need a bolt-on bellhousing from a chevy truck, which used a standard depth housing. Let's say a '98 5.7 liter truck.
You're no going to make any drastic improvement in strength. If you cracked a bellhousing, there's usually another cause. Loose mount? wrong combination motor/transmission mounts? Loose bellhousing bolts? loose converter bolts?
It would be much easier to just have your internals swapped into a good case.

it looks like the torque converter is the blame...
the shop said that the balance wieght came off of the tc and got hung up on the case... you can see the gouges that were taking out of the inside of the bellhousing...
he said it would be covered under warranty and i can get the split case for free...
just didn't know if it was worth the hastle? and if it would be easily possible?
