spedometer pigtail on '95 T56

Can someone show me where the plug-in for my spedometer pigtail on my 1995 T56 is? I had my transmission worked on and they conveniently forgot to plug my spedometer pigtail back in so I have no spedometer. I'm under the car right now trying to find where it plugs in.

Can anyone help?

Do you man the harness connector for the VSS sensor on the tailshaft of the tranny, drivers side. See photo:

I suppose that's what I mean. I'm just a bit thrown off 'cause the plug itself is dangling from the opposite side form where your picture is showing the actual sensor hookup (closer to the front of the car) I crawled under there and its a large plug with quite a few connections along with a smaller sensor that has no home.

Was your car converted to a t56. That sounds like the connectors for an automatic.

Yes it was. So the larger plug isn't necessary? I never noticed it until it literally fell out from underneath the car.

So the only plug that has to do with the speedometer is the smaller one? If so, why is it ran on the passenger side towards the front of the car instead of the drivers side rear where the hookup is located?

Has your car been swapped from an A4 to the T56? That would explain a large unused connector.

The A4 has both a large, multi-pin connector and the VSS lead in the same "bundle". Look at this wiring harness from an A4 (courtesy of Shoebox). The connectors for the A4 and the VSS are in the lower right hand corner. Is that what yours looks like?

Yes that's it. Do you think the trans guy who pulled and reinstalled the transmission possibly caught that part of the harness on the wrong side of the car? It's easily accesible, like I said, from the passenger side front of the T56 and from what your picture earlier showed, the VSS plugs into the rear of the T56 on the drivers side.

...and yes, my car used to be an automatic.

Re: spedometer pigtail on '95 T56

In all honesty, I don't know exactly which side the VSS plugs in on the 4L60E. My car was originally a T56, and I converted it to a TH400, but the TH400 has the VSS connection on the driver's side.

When they did the conversion, did they correctly wire up the reverse lockout, backup lights, and the switches on the clutch pedal to prevent starting unless the pedal is depressed, and to disconnect the cruise control? Did they reprogram the PCM with an M6 program. If they didn't, when you hook the VSS up, the speedo is going to be reading less than 1/2 of actual speed.

Re: spedometer pigtail on '95 T56

I did the conversion about a year ago with a couple buddies and I had no problem hooking everyhting up. I left the reverse lockout off on purpose so nobody would be the wiser if they wanted to try to steal my car (which someone tried to last week and they couldnt figure out how to get it in reverse, thank god) The transmission was recently pulled out to replace the clutch and main bearing, but they forgot to plug the VSS pigtail back in. Ive been trying to take it back to the guy but hes had cars up on the lifts so of course he hasnt had the time for little ole me. I figured Id try and do it myself and here I am...

I know exactly whatyour talking about man. WHat your going to want to do is take the pigtail itself and go from the passenger side of the tranny and rought it over the tranny and to the rear driver side of the tranny and it will be under the Reverse Lockout solenoid. The pigtail only goes in one way. But if you dont have enough slack to over the tranny the easy way would to go underneath the tranny and just make sure you take out the slack and hook the pigtail up from there. But I would go over the tranny if you can.
