Spec Clutches and Chatter

I am looking at purchasing a Spec Stage 3 for my car. I have been talking with some of the local shops and they are telling me that Specs are well known for clutch chatter. Is there any truth to this?

If you've got the $$$ get the McLeod and be done with it. I went through a few Specs a couple years ago and have had the last one they gave me in the car for about 2 years now with plenty of bottle abuse. Seems like they got the problem worked out so far.

I have a SPEC and have zero chatter.

From my recollection of mechanics, most chatter is caused by oil or other foreign substance on the flywheel. I had clutch chatter with a stock clutch, but not SPEC.

I agree... clutches are worse than brakes, they don't like anything on them at all. A mechanic that's a hack that just changes parts but doesn't really understand them can do wonders for that new 500 dollar clutch.

And also it's really just a matter of parts matching. Don't want a stage 5 clutch for your 400 rwhp street bruiser, but then again you don't want to fry that stage 2 your first powershift either.

most aftermarket clutches have chatter.. I won't even get started on the Junk spec makes... nor the various clutches I've wasted money on from them. Mcleod is the right way to go.... mines doing alright so far.

Yeah but the price differance between a SPEC stage III and a McLeod street twin is like $500 - $600. Thats a lot of money. Anyone know what the reg. McLeod (single) clutch will hold?
