Do I need a new Driveshaft???

Well here is the skinny, I'll be putting down 400 hp + or - a few through a Mcleod ST, a T-56 and a Moser 9" with ET streets attached to it. I have an aluminum driveshaft that I either have to get shortened or get rid of for something a little beefier. I think I know what the answer is going to be, but I just want to get some opinions before I make a decision. Thanks

I'd say go ahead and ditch whatever aluminum shaft you've got in it. I've got the Moser 9in installed with a 1LE aluminum shaft right now and I know it's not going to last. If you have a LS1 aluminum shaft, don't think twice, just sell it and get something that's going to live for more than one run. You should be able to get around $100 if you sell you current shaft. Then just take that and a little more and get a Dennys

I really like this quote from their site

"IF YOU EVER TWIST THIS TUBING OR BREAK OUR WELDS...WE WILL REPLACE THE ENTIRE DRIVESHAFT FOR FREE. "

Re: Do I need a new Driveshaft???

Get a Denny's Nitrous shaft and get the billet steel front yoke also. I have basically the same set up as you except with a moser 12 bolt. I twisted the splines on the Denny's shaft with the standard steel yoke and broke a side gear in the posi in one pass. Eaton sent a new posi and the good thing about Denny was that I called to upgrade to the billet yoke but my shaft needed to be longer. Can't lengthen a shaft. So he only charged me for the upgraded billet yoke and built me a whole new shaft at no charge. If that ain't customer service, I don't know what is. Go Denny's. By the way, i'm putting the same power down at the wheels that you are or expect to.

Not to jack the thread, but instead of making a new one, does anyone know if I will need a new DS for a Moser 12 bolt (t56 trans)?

Hey Firehawk_Dude, from what I understand, most that have a moser 9" or 12 bolt have to get a shorter DS. I'm sure somebody here knows how far your DS should slide over your tranny output shaft when installed. I know if it's too little than and if it is too long you can damage a seal in the back of the tranny. I'd like to know the answer to this also.

Re: Do I need a new Driveshaft???

If you're going to order a new DS, just take the measurements that are on Denny's website, and supply him with that info. Every car is different for the length of the DS, My car actually takes a DS that is ~3/4" longer than typical for 4th gens.

I'm running a Denny's Nitrous Ready DS, but without the Billet yoke, until I rebuild the tranny and go with the Viper Output shaft, then I'll get the other Yoke.

Denny is a good guy that really knows his stuff, and builds and stands behind everything he builds.
