Spec 3+ vs. Street Twin.

Ok heres the deal. I have a 95 Z28 puttin down 410/390. The car is a street car first and fore-most but it does get beat on at the track with 5k+ launches on Mickey Thompsons.

I've had a Spec 3 in the car until now, but its worn out with 20k miles on it. Ive never been really satisfied with the street manners of it but understand that you have to give up some driveability to hold up under track conditions.

I've always said that when it wore out I was going to buy a Street Twin, but I've heard of people having hydraulic issues with that clutch, and I don't want to open that box of worms if I dont have to.

I've also heard alot of good stuff about the Spec 3+ lately. Anybody have this in their LT1? I'm sure its strong enough for my HP levels, but wonder about its driveability.

If any of you guys have either of these clutches I'd love to know how you like them. Price isnt a big issue, I just want the best clutch for my application.

Thanks guys,

Joe.

I have about 25K miles on my street twin and it has performed flawlessly. Much better street manners than my friend's Spec 3 that I've driven many times. The ST can also be rebuilt for around $325 by McLeod.

Still have my street twin on shelf in garage, I thought I would need it after all the negative stuff I had read about spec last year. Its still on the shelf.

I changed to a 3+ because I didn't like the wear the twin was causing on the input shaft of the trans and it was a little unforgiving on engagement.

In my application my 3+ is a better street clutch than my mcloud twin, on its second year now and have run 10.7's 133 on a bad day.

I have a McLeod single..

I have heard of MORE problems w/ the Spec vs ANY McLeod clutch. If you do the MC, you have to get he Master, or you will have disengagement issues. The spec seems to be a hit/miss w/ it's life. Some have problems, some don't.

I'm going on 10K miles on my MC Single.. Not a problem yet at all w/ a handfull of hard powershifts.

Well I got the car back together Saturday with the street twin. I have about 100 miles on it now, and so far I love it. Clean smooth engagment with NO chatter. Much better than my old spec 3. Hopefully it will continue to impress.
