slipping 2-3 shift

Just got the long tubes and O/R Ypipe on this week and went out for a road test. I immediately noticed it hit the rev limiter 1 time on the 2-3 shift. It's never done that before.......but I have been noticing the 2-3 shift wasn't near as "crisp" when the car was cold. When warm it was normal.

Well, now it hits the limiter on every 2-3 shift I guess a positive way to look at it is this means the longtubes are making more power!!

So here's my question. I just put 3.73's in place of my 3.42's and haven't gotten the retune from PCM'sforless yet. Could the mistune be causing it to hit the revlimiter? I also noticed the pan was leaking a little bit when I was putting the long tubes on. The fluid wasn't low but I'll check it again tonight.

If the fluid is good, I'll wait for my tune to come in. If the tune doesn't fix it I guess I'll be calling Frank @ CPT for a rebuild. I've been wanting a new convertor anyway

Lower gears should've made it shift earlier, and helping avoid the rev limiter bump. This sure sounds like the classic "3-4 clutch issue". In stock form, the 3-4's just aren't capable of holding up during higher RPM shifting. There are several things in the transmission that contribute to this. Thankfully, we've located and solved all the weak areas.
If the tune doesn't fix it, feel free to give me a call. 302-250-1202

Thanks,
Frank

Thanks Frank, you were the one I was really interested in your opinion. I've searched every post you've ever made, and I'm thoroughly convinced you are the man when it comes to 60E's. Especially your take on the vacuum modulators.

I was afraid you were gonna tell me the 3-4 clutches were going. Interestingly enough I was beating on it after a 30 minute highway drive, and it didn't hit the limiter on the 2-3 shift.

If it does it one more time, I'll give you a call so we can get something done before I tear up a bunch of stuff inside the tranny.

FWIW, I ran 3 dyno pulls on the car this weekend in 3rd gear. The numbers were a little lower than what I wanted to see with my mods which may confirm the slipping 3rd gear.

As a happy CPT customer, I can say that you will be very impressed with his transmission, and a decent stall converter will wake your car up from the dead.
