Slave cylinder?

My car slowly loses brake fluid from the clutch master cylinder. I don't see fluid where i park, and I do not know where the leak is coming from. The pedal drops slightly somtimes, but the pedal stiffens up when I add more fluid. I am thinking it might be the slave cylinder. I dont think its the master cylinder, but I am not sure on this one.

Would i be able to see the fluid on the ground if it was the slave cylinder? And has anybody had this problem before?

Then do I have to have the tranny out of the car to replace/check the slave cylinder?

And if someone else has had the problem, what was the cause and how was it fixed?

The slave cylinder can be removed from the tranny with 2 bolts. You can inspect it if you look under the car.

The slave cylinder has a rubber boot over the actuator rod that can catch leaking fluid and keep it from hitting the ground. As stated above, you can remove the slave cylinder by remove 2 nuts. Just don't press down on the clutch pedal while the slave cylinder is unbolted from the car. My local parts store carries a replacement slave cylinder for about $70.

its recommended to disconnect the rod on the master cylinder from the clutch pedal so you dont put any pressure on the slave cylinder

I didnt mention that the motor is a 3.8. Does that change anything that has been mentioned so far?

Will I have to pull the tranny to replace it?

3.8 i'm pretty sure you have to take the trans out, it hs a hyd. t/o brg. kind of like a ford

chack a service manual, you should be able to see some fluid in the bellhousing. you will have to bleed it when you put it back in
when you have it out you may want to check your clutch/rear main

Yes, the 3.8 slave is actually a hydraulic throwout bearing, similar to an LS1 car. You have to pull the trans to get at it. I'm putting a clutch in my kid's car right now, and I'm changing the slave just so it's new and I don't have to worry about it. New (rebuilt) ones are ~$80

HTH a little
