Re: Short Stick input needed

I'd go with which ever one you can get the cheapest. I really like the way the UMI will lean, but the one I have (ebay special) came with a spacer to move the stick over close to the driver which give the same effect as the UMI and Lou's.

Whichever one you get, dip the end that goes to the shifter in some rubberized coating that you can get at a harware store. This will kill a lot of vibration and noise you'll have otherwise.

how would that thin layer or rubber reduce vibration? if it did it would mean that there is play in the stick...which is the main reason for swapping to a short stick. that damn vibration dampening bushing in the base of the stocker SUCKS!!

i didn't notice any added vibration on either my LT1 or my LS1 with the short stick. and i even have poly motor mounts, trans mount, and TA bushing.

damn i wish i had some more bolts...i machined a few short sticks a while back and have 2 left...but no bolts long enough to install them. i'd make you a great deal.
you can see pics in my website in the sig...look in the table of contents on the page for the page # for the stick

??.....I didn't know shifters were noisy? Not arguing, but I just never noticed...Sounds like a good idea, tho...

I bought the Speed Inc. Short shifter. I hear some saying that they think Lou's is TOO short. After installing an aftermarket short shifter, I realised how much the stockers SUCK!! They're ugly and sloppy.. It's like the shifter from the Munsters! goes throught the T-tops!!

Pluss I was missing a bolt.... That'd explain a lot....

Well, I bought a Pro 5.0/Lou's stick package from afterthoughtsauto.com awhile back.
As for the stick, I think Lou's is pretty good personally. The only concern I have with mine is that it is just a *LITTLE* bit too short for the 2nd gear. When I throw it in second it sometimes puts my hand right on the back of that console. Maybe it's just the way I hold it too (I have a stock **** so a pistol grip would avoid that problem.)

Overall, I'm very happy though. It makes for quicker, shorter shifts and I do like the bend towards the back and towards the driver.

Re: Short Stick input needed

If you already have the factory hurst shifter then i would highly recommend just buying a short stick.

In my 1995 Z i bot the pro 5.0 and lou's combo...i liked it, but i like my current setup better. I have the factory hurst with a short stick in my SS. I have missed 3rd only 1 time since i bought the short stick to compliment the car. My friends also agree that it just "feels" better in general. DOnt get me wrong the pro 5.0 was a GREAT shifter but i like this setup better and it is much cheaper.

I bought a TNA short stick, off TNA motorsports on ebay. I got it with the Hurst leather ****, and damn, big difference and nice quality. It was cheap too, for the **** and the stick it was $44

Re: Short Stick input needed

Just cut about 1'-1 1/2" off the threaded end of the Pro 5.0 stick. It's free and effective...

OK. If I remember correctly, I cut more like 3/4" to 1" off, but you get the idea...

Re: Short Stick input needed

I put an SLP shifter with a hurst **** on my '01 SS, shifts a lot smoother and easier, cost me like $80 off ebay, it was brand new too.

Me too. 1" off the top of my Pro 5.0 and it's perfect.
