Shifter Differences
Shifter Differences
I can get a good deal on a c5 corvette shifter my question is will it fit on the t56 I have in my 96 z28 it is a hurst brand shifter and says it'll work on 93 thru 02 model c5 let me know so I don't pull the trigger on a part I can't use thanks in advance
The Corvette T56 is only the guts of the standard "engine mount" trans used in the F-Bodys. On the C5 the guts are housed in a large assembly that bolts directly to the differential housing, hanging on the rear suspension crossmember. As a result, the shifter mounts above the torque tube that connects the rear of the engine to the front of the tranny, with a long rod that connects the shifter to the trans. The chances of the Corvette shifter bolt pattern being the same as the F-Body mount would seem very slim. If they were the same, aftermarket shifter manufacturers would not have two different model numbers.
This is the only photo I could find of a C5 T56, and its being installed in the back half of a Gen 1 F-Body. The shifter rod connects to the black dot right above the torque tube.
