Shift Kit or Tuning for firmer shifts

Ever since I installed my torque converter I now feel like I need firmer shifts. Which one is better? Is one harder on the Tranny than another?

And is there a way I can Start in 1st gear?

Im not sure which way is "better". But I would firm the shifts up via the pcm and upping the lien pressure. When doing it that way you can control how fir, you want the shifts to be.

Re: Shift Kit or Tuning for firmer shifts

If you use the "modified" Trans-Go Performance Shift kit you can have smooth part throttle shifts, and firm WOT shifts. This you do by working with accumulation. The kit will allow more volume & pressure to the band/clutches when needed. The computer can firm up part throttle shifts, but almost do nothing for full throttle, as this is preset from the factory. Witht he kit you are changing the main & intermediate reverse boost valve, this allows for more line pressure. The feed hole sizes in the valve body plate, allow for more volume. When done correctly, the Shift kit can give you best of both worlds, smooth part throttle shifts & firm WOT shifts.

TransGo's Performance shift kits give you the hard-launching, tire-blazing shifts you want, after just a few hours' work with basic hand tools. TransGo even has kits for computer-controlled 4-speed automatics. Their performance shift kits can be installed with the transmission in the vehicle, and they come with complete instructions and a step-by-step video to walk you through the installation process.

Go to eBay and get one.
I used the HD2 kit, which is about $90 shipped.
It is absolutely the best of both worlds, no comparison to just raising the line pressure.
Note: The HD2 kit is supposed to be the better kit, but does not come with a video tape.

Re: Shift Kit or Tuning for firmer shifts

The "modified" version I carry has different settings on the accumulator, different feed hole sizes, etc. If you already have the kit, then call me and I will give you the needed changes, that will "match" your engine, torque converter, rear end gear ratio, how you drive, etc. 909 7951876.

Re: Shift Kit or Tuning for firmer shifts

Thanks for the info. Do these kits give me the ability to start and keep the car in 1st gear?
