shift kit making can loose traction?
shift kit making can loose traction?
The guy i bought the car from said it had a shift kit. He said when he bought the car the thing would slam or bang when it shifted. He had it adjusted so it was a lot less and would shift with no noise. I am having problems when the car shifts and the damn rear end breaks lose and i almost lose control or i just spins for what feel like an eternity. I am only making around 300 HP right now so it isn't like i have some crazy power that is uncontrolable. I lose so much ground when racing because the car stays at the same speed for a full second until the car shifts and by then the other car is gone. I have 315's with decent traction and my Toyo 275's were even worse. Anyone have any ideas? Is there a way to fix this shifting issue like remove the kit or adjust the computer so it doesn't ramp the rpm's so high when it shifts? The car shift at 42 mph making 5775 prm's if this matters.
Sounds like a B&M shift kit. They are ghetto and good for what you describe, Which in turn is good for breaking stuff. IMO, get a decent shift kit that has a progressive rate of firmness. Superior and TransGo both make these. Their approach is way different than the 1980s way of thinking.
They had a HD and Street-Strip options. But you would need the orig kit to make it work. Plus IDK for sure if its that kit. Ive seen tranny builders make shift kits like that. To be honest, the B&M one I was referring to I had bought a long, long time ago (still made) was just a couple sptings, remove a spring and some blocker rods and blocker sleeves. Sh*t you can make from parts bought at Lowes. I would get one of the better kits like I mentioned B4 and just redo it. That way you know what its got and its done correctly. Bit thats just my opinion. Talk with Dana from ProBuilt.
Oh, and being a 94 could make a difference. My dealings are with 86-93 700R4s and 4L60s. The 4L60E is a electronicly controlled tranny and might have had a PCM tuner adjusting the shifts. Someone with more experiecnce in that area will need to assist you.
Sounds like you need reverse instructions for the shift kit that is in there (whatever that is). I don't know how someone is going to tell you that. IMO, it is going to take someone that knows what is supposed to be there as stock to look and tell you what it needs.
Well, it seems to me it needs to be determined what was done in the 1st place. Is it a electronic tranny that had a PowerProg tune or custom tne on the ECM? Or is it a non-electronic tranny with a installed kit. And if so, whats the kit?
If its a installed kit, then it may be a matter of picking a different shift spring, accumilator spring or re-installing the removed one. Some kits like the B&M crap, remove springs and add spacers. Those create the hard at all throttles shifts. Some better kits actually correct stuff and just change the stiffness rates of springs in the VBody. Those are rarely uncomfortable to drive.
If it was an electronic tranny and done with a programmer, then the programmer would be needed to re-load the factory settings back in.
Other than knowing what it is and what was done, is going to be hard to diagnose and correct. At least over the net anyways
