Shift kit?
Shift kit?
My Hypertech has a choice to make shifts firmer. It say not to use this selection if you have a shift kit already installed. How do i know if my car already has one? Will this make my car quicker and what other benefits would there be? A4

well it doesnt come with one from the factory, so if u or noone else installed one u dont have one. someone else will be able to tell u if its worth it or is bad for ur trans. ive always owned 6 speeds so idk if it will hurt it or not.
I bought the car 3 years ago so i don't know if someone installed it or not. The car chirps the tire in 2nd but it feels real smooth. I guess i could try it and change it back if it felt rough.
From what I have heard, increased line pressure does not hurt the tranny as much as high temperatures.
My car stock chirped 2nd even with 315 drag radials in the heat of summer.
I had my dynotuner increase line pressure while he was tuneing a few other things. It is now much firmer, even part throttle shifts.
Most people will also tell you that Hypertech power programmers are junk and will suggest a mail order tune, too.

The Hypertech box does nothing but make the shifts firmer by reducing voltage to the EPC, which raises line pressure. Simply raising line pressure is not the best way to make the car shift firmer. It usually ends up breaking parts in the transmissions.

I agree simply raising line to get harder shifts with tuning is not the best way to go , In fact we actually have our customers return there line pressure tables to stock as a matter of procedure,To much line can be nearly as bad as not enough You can get into everything from exceeding the mechanical stress capabilities of parts like the input drum and the 3-4 snap ring to solenoid flooding which causes all sorts of strange issues. I have seen cases where shifts were erratic and no downshift ect where simply returning the pressure tables to stock fixed the entire issue. The is a reason we personally do not subscribe to the vac mod setup since with larger cams and low vacuum you can end up with excessive pressure when its not needed. Dont get me wrong it just our opinion some people do quite well with this setup and if it works for them great. We each have our own way of getting from A-Z and Im with whatever works for that person is great for them,
