seriously considering a t-56 swap

Hey everyone, im new to the board, so first things first, Hello! I have a 95 Z with an auto tranny, and im considering doing a t56 swap as im going to have a 6spd parts car shortly. I have found quite a few write ups on doing the swap, so im confident that it is doable for me with the help of those write ups. My question is, can i swap the 6 speed cars PCM with the auto car's and not have to worry about re-programming? They are both 95's.
Thanks in advance for any help!

You can use your A4 PCM without a problem. I'm sure others will chime in, but you can have the shift controls programmed out of the PCM.

You can use the PCM from the T56 car without any changes, except you would need to program it for the gear ratio, unless you use a 3.42 gear. The PCMs are the same, the only difference is the program. If you wanted to use the auto PCM it would need to be flashed with a T56 program.

ok great, i didnt know that the computer took gear ratios into play. Does that have anything to do with how the car will run, or just with the speedo and that stuff?

On a T56 it probably wouldn't make any difference except for the speedometer. If your parts car has a good rear you could just use it. 3.42 is the stock ratio for all 94 and later T56 cars. If the car you are swapping the T56 into has the 2.73 gear you should plan on swapping it or you probably won't be happy with the swap. Leaving from a stop would be difficult and I doubt sixth gear would even be usable. If you have the 3.23 gear you probably wouldn't notice much difference between it and the 3.42 except for the speedometer. The PCM can be flashed to correct the speedometer no matter what gear you use even if it is not one of the stock ratios.

Thanks RNG, im supposed to be getting the parts car in the AM. Ill check out the rear then.. I have to check my ratio as well as i just got the car a few days ago. Any idea what a 4l60e with converter, flexplate, pedals, and console should go for? I figure i may as well sell it off rather than let it sit in the basement! Ill probably be putting up a post on parting out the donor car after i dig through it all and take what i need, but just wondering what a 4l60e conversion "kit" should go for...

If you have a donor car swap out the rear-end too while you are at it. That way you will be good to go with the gears and not have to worry about it.

The speedo is computer controlled- you tell it your tire size and gear ratio- it tells you how fast you are going- simple.

Swapping the rear-ends is only a couple bolts and a brake line- not too difficult considering you have to disassemble the rear-end to swap the gears.

-And you will allready have the driveshaft and torque arm down for the swap.
