Seal between Shifter and Trans?

Do you put a bead of RTV or silicon between the trans top and the shifter? Or is it not requiered?

Also If possible I would like to re-use the rubber boot which screws into the frame of the car to keep water out and what not. It looks like I only need to trim the top of it to fit my new hurst comp plus. Is this a good idea or not?

Do People just not use the rubber boot w/ aftermarket shifters?

I think you have to seal the shifter on there somehow (gasket, sealant) because oil does flow through there. How much "flow" is it really? I dunno. But regardless, I think it's gotta get sealed up somehow (although I'm sorta new to the 6-speed world, so we really need an "expert's" advice on this one!)

... and as for the boot? Well, again, I'm not sure about what most guys do, but I'd be inclined to cut out the boot to fit how you need, but don't remove it completely.

Re: Seal between Shifter and Trans?

put a moderate beam of RTV and call it a day. i put RTV on mine when i put my ripper in and have not yet had a leak from it. as far as the boot im sure you are talking about the way the hole is cut in the top of the boot its like a "D" hole just force that over the shifter or even cut the hole to make it a perfect "O" so it slides down the shaft all nice and pretty its all up to you but i would use it if i were you hope you like the shifter later
