Question Screeching noises from the clutch

Every now and then my clutch lets out these weird screeching sounds. Quite annoying, and sometimes even embarrassing...

It does not make any sound when the clutch is depressed. When I press the clutch, it starts making these noises. Sometimes more, sometimes less. The gears engage fine in general, even though there are times when it is a bit hard to get it to 1st or reverse.

So, I guess that is that a sign of my clutch (throwout bearing?) being on its last leg, right? Is there anything I can do to maybe correct it without forking over a new clutch?

EDIT: Oh yeah... The car has 1062xx miles on the original clutch.

It's time to face the facts that you got your money's worth out of the OEM setup, and now it's time to step up to a new unit.

Yeah, I guess that's what I'll have to do...
