S60 hope I get lucky?

I've pretty much decided on the strange dana 60. Everyone says the cost of a brand new rear are MUCH better than building your own usually. The dana 60 seems like the only way to go especially because its the strongest, and the least parasitic, AND the cheapest! I'm going to wait to get into a GP wit ha few others.

About hoy many of these show sound issues compared to the suscessful ones? I guess I'm asking what are my chances of getting a noisy one? I can deal with noise and from reading up I might be able to prevent noise by doing a very careful and proper break-in.

I think the noise depends on which gear ratio you get , check in to that certain ratio's made certain companies are noiser than others.

I do believe I'll be buying one then. I'm only going with 3.73's and i hear whine increases as more teeth are put on the gears. anybody else know if the noise issue is getting better?

I am pretty sure I will be going with the S 60 as well.
No reason to spend the same amount of money and not buy the strongest rear. I am going to stick with 3.73s as well. I will be having mine shortened 3 inches on each side and a spool installed. My drivetrain should be meteor proof.

average brand new 12 bolt is about $2,400 according to all my research and phonecalls. The REAL deciding factors for me were the %tq/HP loss and the near impossibility of breakage. Strange told me that they can withstand around 700RWTQ before causing failures on the trutrac, and upwards of 1200 rwhp on spool models.

Since I'm SURE that I'm buying one, I'm going to do a FULL writeup for the install and go through and document my break-in procedures. That will hopefully decrease on the noise. My results might help others make a bettter decision when purchasing a stronger rear because $2,200 for a rear end is NOT cheap and if there is a way to fix the noise problems, aLOT of people will want to do the Dana 60

Edit: cost difference, Dana 60 cheaper by $200-400 wich is usually lost in shipping.. the only downfall is you need to send off your old brake backing plates or something for them to assemble on the unit.

from what i read on various sites...you have to do that for the Strange 12bolt as well...depending on what car/rear setup you currently have.

sooo..

what's the difference in parasitic loss between the 2

Its generally quoted at 5% loss for the Dana 60 and 7% for the GM 12-bolt.

Strange needs your backing plates if you want TCS on the 12-bolt. I didn't have to send them anything on mine.

I will also be looking at the next GP. I just really hate the noise issues I have been hearing about.
