roller pilot bearing

When I put my transmisson back in my car should I use the regular pilot bearing that came with my clutch or should I get a roller one? Is there any advantage to having a roller pilot bearing?

Use the solid bushing. The rollers tend to fail sooner from what I have seen.

+1. The bearings can seize up and explode. Go with a bushing.

I had my transmission started making noise . it sounded like it was the throw out bearing but
once i got it apart the noise was coming from the pilot bearing .I did not put a
needle bearing back I went with a bushing instead

The roller bearings are fine, but some people put them in with just the grease they come with, which is insufficient. They need extra grease, then they will last like they are supposed to.

I avoid pieces with those little rollers when I can. I have lost a couple of engines to failed roller bearings (once in a cam button, once a lifter). Since the advantage is negligible, why risk it?

I took the tranny out the other day and took it to the guy that is gonna rebuild it. I was under the car today looking over things and it looks like to me it has a roller pilot bearing in it. As far as I know the tranny has never been out of my car. Did any F-Bodies come with roller pilot bearings?

If you use a solid bushing make sure it's not a cheap one with high iron content. A magnet should NOT stick to it. It will wear your input shaft if it does.

Zoom makes a high dollar bushing made out of some type of synthetic poly material. About $50 in the Summit catalog.
