Reverse lockout..broken?
Reverse lockout..broken?
Just tried to pull my car out of the garage and it started happening. When I go to find reverse It just feels like a wall and if I push up and to the right I get into 5th. The only way to get into reverse is to use both hands and push hard in the top right corner and then it goes in. Once in it acts fine and all and can be pulled out easily. It acts the same w/ the car off or on. Is it unusual for a reverse lockout to go bad? If it was a transmission or synchro problem wouldn't it grind?
Sounds like the solenoid, and yes they do go bad. Pull it out of the tailhousing and see if you can shift into reverse. If it shifts easy, then that's your problem. To test the solenoid, just hook 12v to it and see if it moves.
The solenoid only disengages with the engine running BTW.

Also when I unbolt the solenoid will I lose tranny fluid?
