I have a 4l60e just lying around and I want to try and learn how to rebuild one of these things. Is is hard to do? Is there any books or websites that helps you through the process? Is there any rebuild kits that you would recommend? i seen one master rebuild kit on ebay from monster here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HD-PE...spagenameZWDVW

The 4L60E isn't a very good "beginners transmissions". There are many so called professionals throughout the country that still can't get these things right. It's not impossible to build one back to stock specs and hope it will work, but anything for high performance may be more difficult. There are many tips, tricks, and updates that we do to even our stock rebuilds.
The bast assembly books I know of are ATSG assembly manuals. I think you may have to be an ATSG member to buy the books, though.
Also, remember, you'll need a few $100 worth of specialty tools to build one.
