Question Rebuilding 12-bolt posi

Has anyone had to rebuild the posi in their 12-bolt. The eaton posi in my strange 12-bolt went out on me Friday night and I can't find any website that sells rebuild kits,
does anyone know where I can buy a rebuild kit?

Secondly, I have 3.73s and want to switch to a higher gear ratio. Do I have a 3 series or 4 series carrier?

Which Eaton do you have... the standard 9-disc clutch pack or the "super strength" 14-disc setup?

My Strange came with 3.73's and a 4-series carrier, even though the packing slip seemed to indicate it was built with a 3-series. I had to buy 4.11's for a 4-series.

I'mnot sure which carrier or posi I have. It came from Strange with 3.73s and 33 spline axles if that makes any difference. I'm going to call Strange tomorrow and see if they say.

The base unit in the Strange is the 9-disc clutch pack. The 14-disk pack comes with the "super strength" posi option. The 9-disk will not stand up to high HP applications.

Now I'm wondering which Posi unit I have in my new Stange 12-Bolt. I'm making about 420 RWHP and running 10.5 slicks. So, I'm pretty sure I need the "Super Strenght" unit. I though it had the biggest and best of everything (33 spline axles, Etc), but now I'm not sure.

I called Ed at Strange yesterday to check for sure which unit was installed in my rear-end, however, he was out of the office. So, maybe I'll find out next week.

I have a bracket race today, then tomorrow I'll pull the cover to change the gear lube following the initial break-in.

Which posi unit is that in the photo, the standard, or the super strength?

I changed the break-in lube today and took some photos. My posi unit looks like yours, so I hope it is the "super Strength" unit. They also used a ring-gear spacer, rather than the series carrier to match the ring-gear. I would prefer not to have the spacer.

Again, when I ordered my new Strange 12-Bolt, I thought I was getting the biggest and best of everything. So, let me know which posi unit I have.

Thanks,
WD

That's the "super strength" unit.

Are you saying the ring gear is not bolted directly to the mounting surface of the carrier, but has a spacer on it? Can't see it in the picture.

When I bought mine, I got 3.73's. The build sheet that came with it indicated it had a 3-series carrier, but when I bought new Pro-Street 4.11's, I had to send them back and get a set for a 4-series.

I've looked more closely at your photo of the carrier (no ring gear installed). So, mayby there isn't a spacer ring used with my unit, just the way the area looks between the reluctor teeth and the ring gear. Also, I have 4.30s.

I feel much better knowing I have the best posi unit.

Thanks again,
WD

Well I don't know which one I have yet, all I know is it came with 33 spline axles and 3.73s. I called Strange and asked about a rebuild kit for the posi and they are sending me what ever it is they said I'll need.

Possibly, if your current posi unit isn't the super strength, it may be better to upgrade, rather than rebuild the older standard unit.

Keep everyone posted on what Strange sends you and what you do to fix your 12-bolt.
