Re: rearend help

How hard are you going to beat on it on a sticky track with stickly tires?

At your HP level, the Strange or Moser 12-bolt would normally be adequate. But people with M6's that race every weekend, and make 10 or 12 passes feel it's not quite adequate, and will develop noise and crush sleeve problems with hard use. I have a Strange 12-bolt, and when running the engine without the nitrous (425HP at the rear wheels) I was doing 5,000RPM clutch dumps (McLeod Street Twin) on DOT slicks, and didn't have any problems. The Strange offers the advantage of using the stock style through-bolts to attach the torque arm, while the Moser has 4 separate bolts that screw into the case, and are known to come loose frequently. BMR will not guarantee their torque arm whn used with the Moser.

Next steup up would be the Strange (Dana) 60. Bigger ring gear than the 12-bolt or the 9-inch. Less HP losses (5%) than the 12-bolt (7%) or the 9-inch (10%). Heavy.

Final step would be a 9-inch, but that for the big HP people. It's heavy, inefficient and has some geometry issues, with the pinion shaft centerline set 3/4" lower than the 10-bolt/12-bolt, and offset to one side (not on the centerline of the car), producing stress on the driveshaft/u-joints, and possibly requiring some hammer work on the tunnel to clear the torque arm. The ability to "quick change" the center section for gear changes is somewhat offset by the complicated structure required to attach the torque arm.

Re: rearend help

Fred is right, but I'll simplify: what tires are you going to run? Are you planning on drag racing?
