Rearend gears, differential pricing

I've got a 94 z28 with 2.73's. What can I expect to pay for 3.42 gears and a new differential including installation? I know somewhere locally quoted me $700 for the 3.42 gears along with a complete install kit, but not including a new differential, which broke since then.

Re: Rearend gears, differential pricing

If you want a complete rear, check ebay. Just make sure you are getting what you are paying for. There are some great deals from people who have upgraded their rears and then bought 9" and 12 bolts...BUT Sometimes its better to pay a little more for fresh parts. Locally an Eaton Posi is $350, install kit $100, GM gears through SLP $250 (you can get cheaper gears, but the GMs seem to set up easier with little noise), and install $175 labor..So you are looking at $900ish...

Re: Rearend gears, differential pricing

i just got an eaton posi unit, 373 gears and an timken bearing/install kit for 560 plus 40 bucks in shipping...so 600 bucks to my door, then prolly another 50 to get the gears lined up properly after i get it all together...but if you wanna go with the whole new rearend route, check ebay, check camaro classified ads, there are tons out there and a lot of good deals on them...check local junkyards too...
