Installing new gears

I am having a set of Richmond 3.73's installed in my 2 series carrier. I am also having the Richmond Mega kit installed. I have a SuperChips tuner to set the gear ratio.

Does anyone have any advice about or experience with this setup? Besides increased acceleration and higher RPMs on the highway, what else can I expect to change? Should I be installing any thing else to compliment this change?

Thanks...

Re: Installing new gears

A higher stall (2800-3000) torque converter is a good compliment to lower gears.

Re: Installing new gears

For the actual gear instal put in a solid pinion spacer instead of the crush collar. A stud girdle rear cover (cast cover with studs that preload bearing caps & built in drain plug) will help beef up the 10-bolt, too.

I went from 2.73 to 3.73 and had a 800rpm increase in highway cruise rpm. 1800rpm @ 70mph to ~2600 rpm. Made vthe car so much more fun to launch and drive

You might want some stickier tires.
