Re: rear end whining

Your options are more or less a 9 inch, or a 12 bolt. Some have beefed up the 10 bolt but that could be risky. So, I recommend 9 inch or 12 bolt.

Re: rear end whining

Wrong forum. I'll move this to "Drivetrain". When there, go to the topic page, and at the top you will find a "sticky" that deals with rear axle options. In addition to the GM 12-bolt and the Ford 9-inch, there is the S60, an adaptation of the Dana 60 from Strange. It's worth a look because its stronger than the 9-inch, lighter than the 9-inch, and has a much better efficiency (less power loss) than the 9-inch.

My preference was the Strange 12-bolt. I've been running it for 12 years now, behind an engine that makes 800HP/800lb-ft at the flywheel. For several years, I was running a T56 with a McLeod Street Twin, and the Strange absorbed 5,000RPM clutch dumps on slicks with no problems. It's the lightest weight, with a mechanical efficiency in between the S60 and the 9-inch. It is also dimensionally more compatible with the 4th Gen. But if you are looking at more than 800HP, the 9-inch or the S60 would be stronger.
