rear end swap

alright so i got my new rear end, (new to me) its a 3.23 non TC from a 2001 TA. complete from caliper to caliper, brake lines, LCAs, sway bar, shocks and springs, all for $170.00.

so im gonna put it into my car probably tomorrow and if anyone else has swapped one please tell me everything i need to know.

im going to have the rotors turned at the shop tomorrow and other than that, i was just gonna bolt it up, that mess is heavy. is there anything else i should know?

also, how long will a swap like this take?

BTW this is for the 94

It took me about 5 hours with another hand to help.

I have not swapped any rearends on the latest camaros but have changed a few on the 91 models. I don't think there is much difference. I went from drum brake rearend to disc. and posi unit in a 91 Firebird. No problems! Just take your time and make sure everything is tightened. I did the swap myself and took about 31/2 hours. You may want to spray penetrating oil on the bolts ahead of time. This may help. Good luck. Ed

ok well i just did the rear swap... and aside from breaking off rusted bolts, it was rather easy. i have a few questions tho...

1. the rear was a 3 channel ABS but the connecter for the abs wasnt the same size... so as of right now it's disconnected. and the pedal feels like crap and my ABS INOP and BRAKE lights are on. what can i do to fix this?!?!?!?

2. the new rear came with springs and some rubber things that go on top of the springs, well they are way thicker than what was already on my car, and now the cars *** sits up a couple inches higher. can i take these off, or should i put the stock ones back? thats all the questions for now but im sure i will have more before tonight is over. thanks for the help.

I have an online procedure for swapping in a 12-bolt... the basics will be the same:

Shouldn't take more than a few hours. I did it alone, laying on my back on the garage floor in an afternoon.

ok well i just took the abs sensor off my old rear, and put it on the new rear, and now my ABS INOP light went out, but my BRAKE light is still on, and the brake pedal feels mushy still...although better than without the ABS sensor.

what can i do to get this BRAKE light away and get my pedal feel back to normal? should i bleed the rear brakes? is that even possible? i lost a little fluid from the brake line and i replaced it under the hood but should i bleed them as well? also is there some kind of adjustment im overlooking? the hand brake cables were very straight forward i dont see how you can mess that up

If you opened up the brake lines, you have to bleed the system. The "BRAKE" light is coming on because you have uneven pressures in the front and rear braking circuits.

would that be due to the air in the brake lines or to the fact that my rear brakes are now bigger than my front brakes?

i took the rear from a ls1 fbody and i swear the rear brakes are the same size as my fronts.
