I know this is an old post. But a spacer isn't a good idea for a high stress (big power/sticky tire) because it places more stress on the ring gear bolts. I have the number 0.530" in my head, but that may be for a 12-bolt.

What did you find out?

3series ring gear to 2series carrier spacer is about .28".

Re: Rear End FAQ please help!!!

I have a 4 channel car that I just put a 3 channel rear in last night, now the car doesnt have ASR or ABS anymore. I tried to get my 4 channel axels in the 3 channel rear but they dont quite go in far enough to get the c-clips on so I ended up putting the 3 channel axels in anyway. My question is how exactly do I get my car to have ASR and ABS again? The 3 channel rear has the plug on the top and its plugged in. I filed the flanges down that are on the axel tubes to accept the backing plates from the 4 channel with the plug. In the FAQ it says removing the sensor off of the axels so that they will fit. But then can I put them back on after the axels are in with the c-clips? How do I go about this? Please answer promtly as I need this fixed ASAP.
Thankyou.

Re: Rear End FAQ

Just bought a 2002 CAMARO with ABS and ASR. Someone had swapped out the 4 channel rear for a 3 channel. How can I make the ABS work with the 3 channel only? Understand that ASR wont work unless it's 4 channel.
Also, what would need to be done to make the 3-chan rear a 4-chan and work with the existing ASR?

Re: Rear End FAQ

Just bought a 2002 Camaro with ABS and ASR. Booth lights are on. It appears that the rear was swapped out at some point with one with a sensor on the rear pumpkin only and not both wheels. Understand that ASR won't work with only 3 channel but at least want ABS to work. Anybody have any sugestions on how to make ABS work?

Re: Rear End FAQ

your best bet is to get a 4 channel rear, swappig in all the three channel abs gear (motor pack, proportioning valve, abs actuautor, ecbm) to back-convert will likely be more expensive. Also 4 channel is superior to 3 channel so not sure it would be the best performance path to back-convert.

Re: Rear End FAQ

what problems will I run into changing my rear gears from 273 to 373, in my 2000 Camaro z28 ls1 automatic trans. the stock rear has an ring gear around the carrier next to the ring gear, what is this ring gear for? will changing the gear ratio effect the function of this rear and cause lights to go on in the dash.

Re: Rear End FAQ

That 'ring gear' is a reluctor ring for sending signals to the sensor on top of the housing for the ABS system.
Changing 2.73s' to 3.73s' will require a 'computor tune' to correct the speedometer.
Your current 2.73s' are on a 2 series carrier,if the 3.73s' you're going to get are for a 2 series carrier('thick gears') and since all you're changing are the gears without touching the reluctor,it'll work fine. IF you're changing the carrier to a 3 series carrier for 3.73 3 series gears, you'll need a 3 series reluctor ring.

Thank you for the information that's what I needed to know, I found a 373 with the reluctor gear on the 3 series carrier complete from 2002 Camaro, with low mileage. thank you

Re: Rear End FAQ

Re: Rear End FAQ

There is nothing that is a direct bolt-in, other than an aftermarket rear built specifically for the 3rd/4th Gen F-Body. The problem is the torque arm..... nothing else has a provision for one. The cheapest swap seems to be a Ford 8.8-inch with all the hardware for the mounts, and some sort of torque arm mount welded on.
