read end question
i have a rear end whine when i let off the gas, do you guys have any idea what the problem is, and also im bying 323's or 342's gears but havent decided yet, i want to replace my 273's, do you guys know what other parts i need the fix this whining problem since im already gonna have the rear end apart. also do you guys know which manufacturer makes 342's for a 2 carrier rear end. thanks....

It sounds like you have a bearing going out (probably pinion bearing). When you do your rebuild, just buy an install kit. A good one should include carrier bearings, pinion bearings and seal, shims, races, and crush sleeve. Depending on the miles, you might want to go ahead and replace the axle bearings and seals, since you will have it apart.
As for the gearing, i believe Motive might make a 3.42 for 2 series carrier or you can try Strange or Precision Gear. Why not just go with 3.73? I went from 2.73 to 3.73 and loved the difference it made. And i drive about 80 miles a day.

i kinda do some highway driving so i don't mind the 342's, but here where i live i can only find richmond gears, what do you guys think of richmond, also does my car have posi on it, its all stock, with auto 273's.

Yes your car has a posi. Since you do highway driving, i would recommend staying away from Richmond Gears. You will hate them.
I would recommend Precision or the Motive Gears. I'm not sure Precision makes a 3.42 gear set for a 2 series carrier, but i would check. I do believe Motive makes a gear set for the 2 series. Either one of these i would think you would be happy with.
All of this is given with the assumption the gears are set-up properly. Otherwise, anything you choose could potentially make some noise.
