Ok, I don't have the money to get a 12 bolt ect. I just want a set of 4.10's put in my car that aren't gonna annoy the shXt out of me. What is the best gears? Does GM ( not GM Motive ) make 4.10's? Can you get them that came in an S10 to fit a 93 Z28?

 

Your mods + 10 bolt rear with 4.10's = BOOM!

 

GM/Yukon gears will be the quietest. But that also depends on how they are set up. If they are setup properly, they will be as quiet as stock. Not the strongest gears on the market, but then all gears for our rear ends are weak because of size.

 

I have Mosers and everyone thats drove my car say they are the quietest 4.10s theyve heard. They still whine but its not too bad but again its all about the set up.

 

Yeah the car in my sig isn't my current car but my new one will probably be harder on it because it's a 6 speed. I just am not that hard on my cars. When driving down the highway now I have to use 5th gear so I need some more gear.

If you set them up right most wont whine at all or very little. I've had multiple sets of "loud" Richmonds, even a used set which the original owner said whined like nuts. I set them up right and they dont whine at all, even in a 9" rear.

I too believe that doing the set-up right is the answer to ALL gear-noise!

I have Richmond 3.42s that NEVER whined, & I have Motive 4.56 gears that NEVER whined, either. Lucky for me, I was a machinist for 10 years, so I have the tools (Snap-on inch-pound torque-wrench for the pinion pre-load, mag-base & dial indicator for the backlash, etc) and the knowledge of how to use them...

But the best tools in the world & the knowledge of how to use them won't help if you try to rush through the process! (Which is why I'd REALLY have to know someone before I'd let them install gears for me... They HAVE to care enough to take the time to do it right!)

IMHO you should only need to set-up a set of gears (&/or carrier, too) one time, for the life of your vehicle (my Richmonds have 60K+ on them), so take your time & get it right!
Like I said, I was a machinist, & so I learned the importance of making things to specs- especially if they are MY things!

 

What he said. I had Motives in my 10 bolt and they whined. Two sets of Yukons and they only had a bit of noise at 55 MPH then faded out. 10 bolts are a MF to setup, guess I have just been spoiled by the 9". The key is the proper setup.

Go with the Yukons or any gear that is made by AAM which is a 2 cut gear that uses a very tight backlash.

10 bolts and 4.10's are good with out sticky tires as long as you dont dump it much over 3K if your a stick. Put the sticky tires on and be prepared to tow it home if you dump it epecially on a prepped track.
