Question on T-56 swap

I bought a 95 Z with 58k miles for the motor and trans(my car has 133k on it)Now i think the parts car i bought originally came with an auto. I couldint tell at the time but after pulling the motor and trans i noticed afew things. It had the round plug like connector just hanging by the transmission. I think its the one that goes from trans to PCM to tell it when to shift? The transmission also has yellow wrighting on it like a junkyard would do, and a metal twist tie kinda thing that would hold a piece of paper with info on the tranny. The car wasint driveable, but i jacked the rear end up and shifted through all gears fine and everything seemed smooth.

Im just wondering if everything will work fine with an automatic wireing harness. I technically don't need reverse lights, but do i need to have "reverse lockout" and the skip shift stuff hooked up? Sorry for the long post, i just want to give enough info. Im just learning about most of this stuff with the T-56. Thanks in advance!

Re: Question on T-56 swap

I'm a little confused... are you saying the 95 you bought had a M6 in it with the plug hanging beside it? If so, yes the car was an auto->M6 conversion. Is your car an auto and you're wanting to swap the engine/M6 from the 95 into it?

To wire the reverse lights and hatch release, you have to work with the plug that goes into the side of the auto shifter assembly (inside the car, under the console). You cut the 6 wires off the harness and wire the large yellow and brown wires together so your starter will work (these are part of the ground circuit for the starter... this is what keeps you from starting an auto car in gears other than park and neutral, and in M6 cars, it's wired to a sensor on the clutch pedal so the starter won't work unless the pedal is depressed). The orange w/black stripe and black w/white stripe need to be connected to work your hatch release. And the last two wires (one green, and the other i can't remember right now) need to be connected to the reverse light plug in the trans. Just get some speaker wire and run it from these wires through the hole you cut for the M6 shifter and connect them to the reverse light plug. That's about all the wiring you need to do. The CAGS and reverse lock out don't need to be connected... it's hard enough to engage reverse in these cars and you'd have to be REALLY uncorordinated to push the shifter into the reverse gate when going from 4th to 5th gear. Feel free do wire it in, however.

I've swapped back and forth, as you can see from my sig, and i've gone off of memory on this wiring. I'm pretty sure it's correct, but you might want to check just in case. There is a M6 conversion guide somewhere on the net... something with "afreshtech" in the URL i think.

Re: Question on T-56 swap

Thanks Fast Caddie! Yea the wireing harness from the parts car i bought is an auto and it had a manual. From looking at the cutout in the console, and where the clutch master/slave cylinder come through the firewall, you would of never thought though. Looked just like it was done at the factory. The car only has 58k on it. I dont understand why someone would switch it over with that low of miles on it. I payed $3500 for the parts car for the fact i would have everything i need for the conversion, and everything had low miles on it. Guess i got fuc*ed.
