Question About Torque Converters

Probably a stupid questions but until i bought my camaro i never owned an Auto before so i really know nothing about them. Can someone explain to me what a stall will do for me (3000 RPM)? Also my car, as well as im sure most everyone else who has an A4, cruises at 80 mph and around 2100rpm's. will a stall affect this? if so how much and will it affect my gas mileage alot. I plan on driving my car about 800 miles from Virginia to Maine and on the highway my car gets about 25mpg right now. thanks for your time and input.

[EDIT] if i know if you have 3.23's than i guess i have 2.73s? But i am certain that at ABOUT 75-80 im at ABOUT 2100-2200 rpm's

Re: Question About Torque Converters

Check the RPO codes in your glove box

GU2 Rear axle gear ratio 2.73
GU4 Rear axle gear ratio 3.08
GU5 Rear axle gear ratio 3.23
GU6 Rear axle gear ratio 3.42

Those are the 4 that apply to 4th gen Fbodies.

Yes sir, it has a 2.73, so if i change to a 3.73 im probably see a huge difference. The one question i still need answered is whether or not when im cruising is a 3000 rpm stall going to affect or not? Especially highway speeds (75-80)

Re: Question About Torque Converters

3.73 will hurt your gas milage. You will cruise around 2200 or so at 65. If you get a 3000 stall with lock up it won't effect your highway miles, but will effect your city miles.
