Question about A4

Just wondering if it is alright to keep it in drive instead of Overdrive?? This would be in town and I would never go over 50mph. I just like having the power there all the time. Any thoughts on this

Re: Question about A4

Ther is no real power difference as you are using the same 1,2,3 in drive as in OD just no 4th . No you wont hurt it or help it any. Steven

Re: Question about A4

No harm with keeping it in 3rd around town. The RPM's will be higher because in OD it shifts at 40MPH and drops the RPMS to 1000 so in 3rd you will be about 500 higher just cruising at 40MPH.

Re: Question about A4

Until I got 4.10's, I always drove around in 3rd gear instead of 4th.....even on the highway as high as ~75 mph (~2700 rpm in 3rd). Now with 4.10's, that's the rpm's in 4th gear @ 75 mph! Occasionally, I'll still cruise (usually in town) in 3rd, but at certain rpm's, there's more of a droaning sound inside the car, so I'll keep it in 4th.

Just remember, TH350's and TH400's never even had OD.
